This system was conceived in a quarter-long project, centered around the issue of connection in pediatric occupational therapy. Children present unique challenges within the occupational therapy space, with one of the most prominent being that they often lack the drive to practice their therapy tasks when compared with adults. This line of products aims to create an engaging experience that encourages children to actively want and enjoy completing their assigned therapy tasks.

We worked directly with a licensed occupational therapist specializing in pediatric care for the duration of our project to ensure that our concept would be viable as a product.

Design Timeline

Initial concept sketches from the entire team exploring different design solutions and forms.

After corresponding with our occupational therapist advisor, our team narrowed down on a select few directions that both our advisor and our team felt had the most potential to be made into an actual product.

A third second round of correspondence was done with our occupational therapist advisor, which allowed us to narrow our concepts down to three products that could be sold as one product line.

A few 3d-print iterations were created to give us greater insight on form and scale, as well as a greater understanding of how a child might hold and interact with it.

A form was finalized and a simple UI was developed alongside the main Pebble product.

The two companion products, a smart utensil, and an app that would correspond with the main Pebble device are finalized, completing the product line.
