Blood Pressure Monitor Concept

— Objective

Create a portable blood pressure monitor for consumer usage

— Timeframe

3 Weeks

This blood pressure monitor concept was designed for usage both on and by children. It’s simplistic form, interface, and one-size-fits-all ring design allows a child to continue using the same BP monitor from early childhood to their later teen years.

This concept changes the blood pressure cuff that is traditionally wrapped around the forearm or wrist and places it on the interior side of a ring-shaped form. After fitting one’s arm through the ring, the interior cuff would then inflate to create the pressure necessary to take an accurate blood pressure reading.

Initially, I began with a few simple sketches to explore the basic form of the blood pressure monitor. I was primarily focused it could be used by children.

I selected a general form based on my initial sketches, and explored more options within the design concept.

A rough prototype was created using foamcore, muslin cloth, and loose cotton to prove that the design utilized a functional mechanism.

From the refined sketches and basic prototyping, a final concept was selected. The design was then 3d modeled and rendered to give an idea of how a final, manufactured product would appear.
